Case studies

As a professional translator, I provide my clients with more than just translation services. I also place at their disposal my deep knowledge of both Somali language and culture, as well as the conditions and preferences of the Somali market and communities abroad. These assets allow me to help clients with creating better brand image and adjusting their communication to their target audience. Here are some examples of how I have helped my clients with various projects and challenges.

Long term supervision of translation team

One of my clients is a multinational company that needs regular translations of various documents in different fields. I supervised and partially coordinated a team consisting of several translators and reviewers. My work involved:

– Creating and updating a glossary: I helped with creating and maintaining a glossary of key phrases and terms for the specific domain and project. I used various online and offline resources and databases to ensure consistency, accuracy and up-to-dateness of the terminology.

– Supervising updating glossary: I monitored the changes and additions to the glossary made by the team members. I verified that they were correct and consistent with the existing terminology. I also resolved any conflicts or discrepancies that occurred.

Assistance with legal translations and communication

Another of my clients is a solicitors firm that needed help with their Somali clients. They had several cases involving Somali speakers who needed legal advice and representation in various matters. I assisted them with:

– Translation of court bundles: I translated various documents related to the cases, such as contracts, statements, evidence, reports, letters and forms. I ensured that the translations were accurate, clear and compliant with the legal requirements and standards. I used CAT tools and glossaries to maintain consistency and quality across the translations.

– Communication with the clients: I helped the solicitors communicate with their Somali clients effectively and efficiently. I also translated emails, text messages and other written communication between the solicitors and their clients. I made sure that the communication was smooth, respectful and confidential.

Assistance in communication with tenants

Another one of my clients acts as a landlord renting several apartments to Somali families. He needed help with translating and communicating with his tenants in various situations. I assisted him with:

  1. Translation of contracts of lease: I translated the contracts of lease from English to Somali, making sure that they were clear, accurate and legally binding. I also explained the terms and conditions to the tenants and answered any questions they had.
  2. Translation of procedures and policies: I translated the procedures and policies related to the rental, such as maintenance, repairs, inspections, payments, deposits and complaints. I also helped the landlord communicate these procedures and policies to the tenants and ensure that they understood and followed them.
  3. Translation of correspondence: I translated any written communication between the landlord and the tenants, such as letters, emails, notices and invoices.
